The risks of acupuncture are very low. Acupuncture needles are very thin, solid but flexible. They are as fine as a hair or a fine fiber thread, and they do not need to force any fluids into the skin. Most people feel no pain or very little pain when they are inserted. People often say they feel energized or relaxed after the treatment.
Common side effects include soreness and minor bleeding or bruising where the needles were inserted, however those go away within a couple of days after treatment and they are rare.
Single-used, disposable needles are now the practice standard, the risk of infection is minimal.
The first visit is typically longer, up to an hour and half. Follow up visits are usually less than an hour.
During the initial visit you will meet your acupuncturist for an individual consultation to review your medical history and the main reasons for coming. You will then proceed into a private treatment room, remove your shoes socks and get comfortable on a treatment table. Your practitioner will decide where to place the needles and other related treatments you way need (cupping, Gua Sha or acupressure massage).
You should wear something comfortable (e.g. sweatpants, a comfortable t-shirt, shorts, loose clothing etc.) for your acupuncture appointment. Please refrain from wearing make-up, perfumes/colognes, and keep jewelry to a minimum. Also try to avoid an empty stomach, eating a big meal before your appointment or drinking a lot of fluids prior because you will be laying on the table with needles for more than 30 minutes.
Coverage depends on the individual's plan. We can verify treatment coverage with your date of birth and member’s ID on your insurance card. You can email that information to stcmclinic@gmail.com or text to 408-533-9989 for verification.

Acupuncture is one of the main techniques used in Traditional Chinese Medicine for more than 3,000 years. Through the insertion of very thin needles into your skin and muscles, the goal of this dynamic and integrated health care system is to activate the natural, self-healing abilities of the body. It can also strengthen and support the body to prevent future illness and disease. When treating pain, the needles help to remove the inflammation, relax the contracted muscles, improve the blood flow and lymphatic circulation.
Electro acupuncture is effective in various conditions, such as neurological disorders, pain and spasms in the muscles, acute nausea caused by cancer medications and more. There is also some evidence that electrical stimulation of acupuncture points activates the endorphin system, which could lower blood pressure and reduce heart disease.

The placement of needles are the same as traditional acupuncture, the needles are then attached to a device that generates continuous electric pauses using small clips. The intensity and frequency are adjusted and delivered depending on the dentition being treated.
This therapeutic technique is based on the theories of Traditional Chinese Medicine that uses finger pressure to mobilize Qi at specific spots (same as acupuncture points). This is ideal for people who are sensitive to needles. We also specialize in Myofascial release through the use of trigger point.
